Are there any startups working in the field of refining the experience of people who go to shopping malls?

For example any startup that helps a user to locate stores of his/her interest in a shopping mall.

There are, yes. Think data plays.

Wi Fi Fo Fum comes to mind, for instance. It provides free Wifi in exchange for an email - for marketing purposes. It’s run by @BradRhoads.

Another colorful example off the top of my head would be cloud-based video monitoring startups. They’re trying to analyze the video data to optimize store layouts.

Like others have said - there are many.

I read of one on Bloomberg recently - a startup - in order to respect privacy, they have video cameras pointed at feet. Based on analysis they can get an amazingly high success rate in identifying people (couples, parents with kids or two adults, and identify men/women). The duration they spend in various parts of the store all adds up to some creative powerpoints being born.
