Many large companies and startups run Engineering blogs.
Example -
http://engineeringblog.yelp.com http://engineering.twitter.com/ http://www.facebook.com/Engineering http://eng.yammer.com/blog/
I’m trying to look at viable options to start a similar Engineering blog for a small startup organization. We don’t want to get involved in hosting and would prefer an out-of-the-box implementation that allows good support for markup and formatting.
So far I have only come across Wordpress.
Thanks!
You could also try Ghost which gets increasingly popular in the realm of software development blogs. E.g. Jeff Atwood (co-founder of StackOverflow / StackExchange) is using it for http://blog.codinghorror.com/. Ghost is open-source, can either be hosted or self-hosted and also has some team collaboration features.
I recently started using Google's blogger for exactly this. Here are the pros:
The only thing I am fearful of is that Google might start putting advertisements on it once I exceed a certain level of traffic.
I can vouch for Digital Ocean, as I use them for my site, delmania.net. They have a image configured for Wordpress. As for an actual blogging engine, Ghost is good, Blogger is good, and GitHub pages is good, but I earnestly recommend Wordpress for people just starting out. It has the lowest barrier of entry, and that will get you focused on making high quality content as opposed to have to configure the engine itself.
You can use github pages. Fast static pages, and easy to setup and run. Completely free hosting by github. You can get google analytics by integrating them into your pages or have comments integrated from companies like discuss. For more info: https://pages.github.com/
If you happen to be in electronics industry, you can check out www.valpont.com. Valpont.com is to serve as a community and knowledge base for electronics professionals and businesses. We just launched it and yes I work here. You can register as a business and you can post news/white-papers/IPs/files/etc. You can also post events, polls, jobs, and items for sale (we have e-commerce feature). You can use “User Page” to serve as your “website”. It supports many formatting but is not as flexibile as your own site to be clear. With your own site, you have to worry about how to get it known. So the main benefit of using valpont.com is to make your company more visible.
Feel free to give it a try and let us know how it works. The good side of being a startup is we take your feedback seriously.
