Transition from corporate developer to freelance/startup work

For the last five years I have held various roles in traditional corporate settings such as software engineer, program manager, and systems engineer. I have also developed an iPad app on the side that should start generating a small amount of income. I really want to branch out on my own doing app and web development as a service and helping startups in exchange for money and/or equity.

What are the best resources (books, podcasts, websites) available for making the transition from corporate development to freelance. I am not looking to primarily create my own product. I just love working with people and I am tiring of the corporate America culture. Most software services companies I have worked with have provided mediocre service or products and I feel I could do better at a cheaper price. Looking for any and all advice or references.

I made the same transition 7 years ago, some pointers to material that will prevent you from making many of the mistakes I did.

• read the "Win Without Pitching Manifesto" until you can recite it by heart.
• listen to the Brennan Dunn's Podcast
• read "Break the Time Barrier" by Mike MacDerment
• watch "F*ck you, pay me" from Mike Monteiro
• get a copy of "The Positioning Manual for Technical Firms" by Philip Morgan
