How would I go about hiring a graphic designer for my company?

I am at the point to where I just need a good graphic designer. My company creates websites and we need some graphics to go with these. We are also looking into selling logo design. I’m not currently at the point to where I want to hire somebody full time, so I want more of a freelancer that is paid for the amount of work that they do, not a salary. How would I find somebody like this? Even after I find them, how would I go about the interview process and getting all of the details figured out? Is hiring somebody like this different than hiring full time programmers?

After reading your requirements, I agree with you. You should hire a part time freelancing designer on hour basis/fixed rate.

First of all, check popular freelancing sites and find a freelancer designer whose rate is in your budget, has enough experience to meet your deadlines, etc. Then interview them, and ask them to show you recent designs they have made like web designs, logo designs, etc. Also check their freelancing profile and see how strong that is and how other people gave feedback for that designer.

Once you get someone perfect, then explain your work to them, like how you work, what type of work you will assign and your whole process, and if they agree and they’re suitable, then you can hire immediately.

Also I would suggest trying to find a local and nearby freelancer.

I think you should give 99designs.com a look. It eliminates all your problems - no need to interview or hire. You can also scale very easily and pay an amount that you wish to pay for a specific work. I think it is also better than one designer because many designers are often better than one designer (I am not associated with 99 designs but i have used them before and was very happy)
