What kind of anti-masturbation devices were made by the Victorians, and why? What led to the development of the need to cure masturbation?

Answer 304

I had to look this stuff up so here's what I've found!

But why were the Victorians so obsessed with what they termed ‘self-abuse?’ Many medical practitioners during this period believed that masturbation caused a wide range of mental and physical disorders, and could even prove fatal over time. Doctors and surgeons alike devoted their lives to finding a ‘cure.’

  1. The Jugum Penis - A bear trap for an erection. It was primarily designed to prevent nocturnal emissions.

  1. The Mechanical Sheath - Basically a male chastity belt, a corset for the cock, and it had a very tiny key to open it. Should you lose the key, suicide was a viable option.

  2. The Stephenson Spermatic Truss - A sheath on the inside of your leg for your gun. Don't run or you'll chaff your willy!

  3. The Graham cracker! - yes apparently having a 'bland' breakfast was supposed to help lower you need for excitement. Wonder if that is why smores were introduced to camping...

  4. The Bowen device - a little cap for that cold lonely head, only it was attached to the pubic hair. When things started to stretch out, hair was removed from sensitive places.

  5. The Female Chastity Belt - different designs all meant to keep fingers, tongues and other long items away from sensitive areas. enter image description here

  6. The French Electrical Device - had a little ring you wore and when things started heating up, an alarm would sound, basically shaming you into compliance.

  7. The Cold Water Shower - water proof pants, and while sleeping, when dreams may come, a trigger was tripped and your pants would fill up with cold water.

  8. The Cage - a device that didn't hurt your member, it let you get an erection, but it was locked up 'out of reach'...

    1. Corn Flakes - Dr. Kellog was of the same mind as Graham and Corn Flakes was HIS answer.

    2. Circumcision - While t was not invented by the Victorians, it was very heavily prescribed by them as a 'cure' for masturbation and it the primary reason for such widespread practice in the US.
