Will a 2000 mAh battery allow my device to operate for twice as long as a 1000 mAh battery?

In other words, I'm wondering if the graph of battery mAh rating to device operation time follows a straight line.

It's not exactly linear but yes 2000 mAh battery should last around 2 time more than 1000 mAh battery
