A Mosin Nagant I recently purchased has a big “2” stamped on the top of the stock just ahead of the butt plate:
Does anyone know what this would have indicated?
2’s usually show up on rifles refurbished for sale to other countries. You’ll see this some on Mosin Nagants, and a LOT on SKS.
Might be a variation on the Hungarian country code, which is usually seen as “02” on the stock. Does it have any other markings indicating it’s origin?
